Is the Fitbit Versa 2 Waterproof? (Water Damage & Warranty)

Is the Fitbit Versa 2 Waterproof?

The Fitbit Versa 2 is a smartwatch that helps wearers track health-related stats. You may use this to check oxygen levels or heart rhythm, make contactless payments, or do so many other things!

Yes, the Fitbit Versa 2 is waterproof. It is often used by swimmers but can also simply be worn in the shower or at the beach. This smartwatch is water resistant up to 50 meters, making it swim-proof. Fitbit Versa 2 is water resistant thanks to its water-lock feature which allows your screen and buttons to be locked while underwater.

What does waterproof really mean when it comes to watches? Stick with us to learn about waterproof versus water resistant, uses of your Fitbit Versa 2, and more.

Waterproof vs. Water-Resistant

If you are unclear on the difference between waterproof and water resistant, you aren’t alone.

The truth is that there is a lot of crossovers between these designations. Waterproof products are more durable and can take more water overall, especially when submerged.

Waterproof

Essentially, waterproof products are completely immune to the effects of being penetrated by water.

These products can have water poured on them or be fully submerged without long-term issues.

Water-Resistant

Products that are water resistant, instead of waterproof, can withstand some water, but only to a certain extent.

If a water-resistant product goes into the shower, it might be fine. On the flip side, the same can’t be said for it being submerged in water past a certain depth or pressure.

Is the Fitbit Versa 2 Waterproof?

The Fitbit Versa 2 is waterproof in the way that most people think of the definition. The smartwatch can be submerged without worry of damage.

However, the Fitbit Versa 2 is labeled as water resistant mainly thanks to its water-lock feature.

This feature allows your screen and buttons to be locked while underwater, so nothing is accidentally bumped by water drops.

Having a water-lock feature allows wearers to avoid any unintended actions on the smartwatch while in the shower or swimming.

Not to worry, you’ll still get any notifications, and your alarms will still go off. To be able to interact and turn off an alarm or respond to a notification, you’ll just need to turn off the water-lock feature. This is best done once you’ve dried off the face of your smartwatch.

Can I Shower with My Fitbit Versa 2?

Wondering if you can shower with your Fitbit Versa 2? Absolutely!

You don’t have to take off your smartwatch in the shower. This is one of the best benefits of the water-lock feature when it comes to daily use.

Actually, all Fitbit watches are water resistant at the least, meaning that quick showers should be fine with all products.

Take a swim and then hop in the shower with no concerns for the wellbeing of your smartwatch.

Is the Fitbit Versa 2 Waterproof in Salt Water?

While the Fitbit Versa 2 is fully water resistant, I would caution against using it in the ocean often. The salt in saltwater could end up corroding the hardware of your watch.

I haven’t seen this happen to any of my products, thankfully. I have, however, heard stories from others who have had issues with their smartwatches post-ocean swim.

You could be fine to use your watch in the ocean and then rinse it off, but there is some risk involved.

Fitbit Versa 2 Water Damage

Is water damage possible even though the Fitbit Versa 2 can repel water?

It’s difficult to tell how water resistant the Fitbit Versa 2 is, because it does not have an IP rating. This rating would help us figure out exactly how resistant the smartwatch is to water.

Instead, we know that the Fitbit Versa 2 is waterproof up to 50 meters. This means that the smartwatch can do well up until 50 meters down, where pressure levels will be different.

Water damage can occur in salt water, like we mentioned above. If you consistently bring the product into the ocean, the salt could begin to corrode your smartwatch.

If you’ve had your watch for quite some time, its level of water resistance could also go down. So, be careful not to expect the same exact level of protection on year 1 and year 5.

Does the Fitbit Versa 2 Warranty Cover Water Damage?

We know that the Fitbit Versa 2 is highly water-resistant and that it can do well up to extreme depths.

There is also the chance that your watch has lost some of its water resistance, or that salt water could cause damage.

Damage from the shower, swimming pools, diving in the ocean, and any other water-related activities may occur. Unfortunately, circumstances like this are not going to be covered under Fitbit’s warranty.

I recommend contacting support to ask about your options. It doesn’t hurt to try, right? You may just be able to work something out if you are still within the timeframe of your warranty.

How to Fix Fitbit Versa Water Damage

If you cannot get a new Fitbit from your warranty thanks to water damage, you may wonder if you have any other options.

Fitbit products are made to be durable, but sometimes they will fail.

  1. Try to dry your smartwatch as thoroughly as you can. Place it in a dry place where it can then air out. After a few hours, try to charge the device back up. Alternatively, you can try placing it in a bowl of rice to soak up the water. This may not work for you, depending on the extent of the damage.
  2. The best thing that you can do aside from trying to thoroughly dry and charge your device is to call support. The Fitbit support team gets situations like these frequently and will have advice for you to follow.
  3. You may also find advice in user forums and online communities where fellow Fitbit users have had similar issues.

What Other Fitbits are Waterproof?

The Fitbit Versa 2 is not the only Fitbit product that is water resistant. While no Fitbit products are listed as fully waterproof, the water resistance of the products is almost always high.

You can expect the following Fitbit device to be water resistant:

Fitbit Ace 2

  • Least water resistant
  • Use in the shower but not to be submerged

The following Fitbit devices are highly water-resistant, up to 50 meters:

Fitbit Charge 3

Fitbit Inspire

Fitbit Ionic

We mentioned that the Fitbit Versa 2 does not have an IP rating, but this is not unique. Fitbit has not assigned any of their products this rating.

Instead, we know whether the water resistance is of the level ‘use in the shower’ or ‘okay to submerge.’

This does make it difficult to give exact expectations when it comes to discussing water resistance. Know that most Fitbit products, like the Versa 2, Charge 3, Inspire, and Ionic, are okay to swim with.
