Can Peloton Go on Carpet? (Top 5 Protective Mats)

Can A Peloton Go on Carpet?

If you’ve just gotten a Peloton, you’re probably eager to try it out and learn what all of the hype is about. You might be wondering where to put your Peloton, and we are here to help!

Peloton bikes can go on the carpet, but we don’t recommend it as a carpet doesn’t provide the necessary stability. Still, you want to make sure that your floor is protected. The best way to protect your floor while assuring stability, consider purchasing a mat such as Crostice, the Uplift, the Wahoo KICKR, Supermats, or Malamute Sports Indoor Cycling Mat.

Read on to learn the ins and outs of placing your Peloton on the carpet and what we suggest perfecting your gym set-up.

Is It Okay to Have a Peloton on Carpet?

Technically, a Peloton can be used on carpet, but it isn’t always a great decision. Ideally, you would want to have your Peloton on a hard surface to provide the most stability.

Additionally, even if you have a hard surface for your Peloton, you will still want to protect your floor.

The same is true if you have carpet; it’s fine to put your peloton there, but it could result in the following issues:

  • You won’t be completely steady. Generally, the weight of the Peloton should keep it steady. When you are on carpet, however, the fibers might lend itself to occasional wobbliness when you are having a vigorous workout.
  • You could damage the carpet. Sweat, especially, could damage the carpet over time.
  • Your machine will be nosier. Using a Peloton right on top of the carpet could result in vibrations on the floor. This isn’t too bad if you live in a house, but if you are in an apartment building with downstairs neighbors, you might cause them some discomfort.

Do I Need a Mat Under My Peloton?

Mats are a great way to keep your floor safe, help with Peloton bike or treadmill steadiness, and make sure you aren’t disrupting your neighbors.

Whether you need a mat depends on if you have neighbors and if you are okay with your carpet getting a bit of wear and tear.

Generally, though, getting a mat is a great idea to make sure you are getting the most out of your Peloton while keeping your floor in good shape.

Mats are also a great option because they are inexpensive and long-lasting.

Best Mat for Peloton on Carpet

Here is our list of the top 5 Peloton bike mats that you can use to keep your floor in great condition while you get your workout on:

1. Crostice Bike Mat

This bike mat is designed with everything you need. It’s 6mm thick and works on carpet and hardwood floors. Its thickness is designed to dampen noise and vibrations. It’s also made from non-slip material and is water and sweatproof.  It was designed specifically for the Peloton bike, which means that it provides plenty of room on every side of the mat; your bike will never slip off. It’s currently available for $39.99 on Amazon.

2. The Uplift Bike Mat for Peloton

The Uplift was designed for both NordicTrack and the Peloton Bike. This mat is also designed to absorb any and all vibrations while keeping your carpet clean and any hardwood protected from dents or scratches. If you ever decide to get a treadmill, it is also large enough to be used under those. It is designed to be easy to clean with a damp rag. It combines fitness with style, utilizing the classic “Ride Hard” quote to keep you motivated during your workout.

3. The Wahoo KICKR Multi-Purpose Floor Mat

This mat is great if you are looking for something that can be used for multiple workouts. Not only is the floor mat a great option for indoor cycling, but it can also be used for cross-training or other fitness machines. At $80, it’s the most expensive mat on the list, but it’s still a great option if you have more money to spend and looking for an extremely high-quality mat. It includes beveled edges to make sure the mat is unmovable unless you are trying to move it. Like the others, it’s also water-resistant, has texture to prevent slipping, and is noise insulating.

4. Supermats Heavy Duty Equipment Mat

Supermats is the least expensive on our list, at only $24.99. Even though it is less costly, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer great floor protection. It’s lightweight, making it easy to move around if you decide to relocate your Peloton bike. It has great reviews too, with an average of 4.5 stars for 1904 reviews on Amazon. It’s also designed to make your equipment last longer by preventing dust and carpet particles from entering your machine. For those looking for the most value for their money, Supermats is a great option.

5. Malamute Sports Large Indoor Cycling Mat

The last mat on our list, but certainly not the least. This is one of the largest mats on the market and is a great option for someone who wants extra space in their workout area. It’s made from PVC which means that it is durable and odor resistant. Unlike the other mats, this one also comes with an accessory kit to give you everything you might need. It comes with a bag for easy and space-efficient storage or carrying. It also comes with a microfibre cloth that can be used to wipe the sweat off your body or clean the mat. Finally, it comes with a fashionable headband to prevent sweat from dripping on your face.

Peloton Bike Mat Alternative

Not everyone may want a bike mat. For instance, if you live in an apartment where noise travels easily, you may know that a floor mat won’t be enough to prevent the noise of your riding.

Another reason you may not want a bike mat is if you are planning to build out your gym. You may not want to get multiple mats, but instead want to get products designed for a residential gym.

Whatever your reason, there are a variety of options to suit your needs. Here are two of our top picks:

1. Versafit Flooring

This flooring is designed specifically for gyms and has some of the best noise-cancelling properties on the market. They have options both used in commercial spaces and ones designed for residential gyms. It may require a bit more planning to use this flooring, as you’ll need to measure out how many squares you need. Most bikes will require two.

2. Marine Grade Plywood

Plywood is a great option if you also want more stability under your bike. One benefit is that the company listed will cut the wood to your specifications if needed. The only downside is that the plywood is more expensive than a traditional mat.

Can You Use a Yoga Mat Under Peloton?

Technically, you can use a yoga mat under your Peloton and it likely will help provide some stability and keep your floor safe. However, we don’t recommend it.

Yoga mats are designed for athletic activities and not sports machines. Your yoga mat likely isn’t thick enough to make a real difference in the stability of your bike, or in how protected your floor is.

Using a yoga mat under your Peloton might be an option for the short term, but really you should look for a mat specifically designed for your Peloton.

Whatever you choose, there are a lot of great options to find the perfect mat for your Peloton. This way, you can keep your floor safe, your stability strong, and your neighbors happy, while you get your fitness on.
